Hordes our treasures, of course
Basically, our finance person, who knows the rules, and watches the money
Core Responsibilities
- Knows the Union’s financial policies and regulations inside-out
- Never allow the society to fall into debt
- (Exceptions can be made for 2024-2025, as it’s our first year)
- Including veto-ing ideas and keeping events in check and within budget
Desired Attributes
- A good understanding of general financial rules and guidelines
Committee Connections
Chair: Money concerns affect the society as a whole and so are also partly the Chair’s responsibility to watch and to try to remedy if something goes down
Outreach Officer: As sponsors and donations would usually come from the connections forged with firms, by the OO
Merchant: Both a point of expense and income, upfront costs for merch-purch are usually high, so there needs to be enough capital to absorb that, but the ROI should be calculated, too, to make sure that the society has enough to sustain its activities
CTF side: Event, equipment, or expedition costs (CC or CEO, either is fine)
Academic side: Event, equipment, or speaker costs (AC or AEO, either is fine)
Other: event sponsor income would usually come through OO, but non-regular/ad hoc sums can also come from anywhere, but must be accounted for by the Treasurer
Notes
- This role requires lots of little bits of work, with only a couple larger chunks
- When a new expenditure request or income item comes in, it must be handled asap, but it shouldn’t take too long if it’s handled well
- But these little bits of work must be constantly kept on top of, to avoid overwhelming the Treasurer and to ensure the society is always green
- Larger chunks of work are much rarer and would only consist of:
- Large event finances (ICTF, etc.)
- Annual Budgeting (for ICU)
- Down the line, maybe consider a business-related student to taking up the mantle
- Role doesn’t require a lot of Cybersec knowhow
- Benefits them in terms of work experience, too (good CV item)
- Handling finances within a non-profit organisation
- May have better understanding of general financial rules and guidelines
